The deputy speaker of Britain’s House of Commons was arrested earlier today after two men accused him of rape.
Nigel Evans was arrested in northwest England on suspicion of rape and sexual assault. He was released a short time later.
Evans, who is openly gay, is alleged to have raped the men, who are believed to be in their 20s, between 2009 and March of this year in Pendleton, where he owns a home.
Details surrounding the alleged crime have not been released.
Fifty-five year old Evans has been a conservative member of parliament since 1992. He came out as a gay man during an interview with The Mail in 2010.
