The shooting occurred at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, which is in the western part of Connecticut, on Friday morning, December 14th.
The gunman, said to be in his 20s, Adam Lanza (pictured below right) killed his mum at home and drove to the school in Newtown, Connecticut and opened fire on pupils and teachers, killing 26 people in all. 20 children between 5 to 10 years old and six adults, including the school principal; before killing himself.
Lanza was dressed in black military gear and a bullet proof vest,carrying a rifle and two handguns when he entered the Sandy Hook Elementary school shortly after 9.30am and started gunning people down. Witnesses say he was going from room-to-room shooting people after first killing the principal and psychologist execution style and then going to his mother Nancy's kindergarten class where he continued his killing spree.
The United States has experienced a number of mass shooting rampages this year, most recently in Oregon, where a gunman opened fire at a shopping mall on Tuesday, killing two people and then himself.
The incident is the deadliest shooting at a primary or secondary school in US history.
This is so sad and unbearable to any parent. Our condolence goes out to the families who have lost a loved one. May God give them strength, heal the broken hearted and bind up their wounds.
