England defender Rio Ferdinand has announced his retirement from international football.

The Manchester United player, 34, who won 81 caps, said he wants to concentrate on his club career.

After a great deal of thought, I have decided the time is right to retire from international football.

Ferdinand's England career

1998: Named in squad for 1998 World Cup finals but does not play
2000: Left out of Euro 2000 squad
2002: Scores first England goal in 3-0 win over Denmark at 2002 World Cup

2008: Captains England for first time in defeat by France in March - loses out to John Terry in battle for permanent skipper role
2010: Terry is stripped of captaincy and Ferdinand is given the armband but injury rules him out of the 2010 World Cup

2012: Left out of England's squad for that summer's European Championships
2013: In March,Recalled for World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro before later withdrawing

He played in three World Cups - 1998, 2002 and 2006 - but was ruled out of the 2010 tournament in South Africa because of a knee injury.

To have captained his country, and to play at three World Cups, marks him out among a very special group of players.

At 34, it is right to stand aside.

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has declared a state of emergency in three states in an attempt to curb the increasingly violent attacks by Islamist militant groups "Boko Haram"

Jonathan  said The military will take "all necessary action" to "put an end to the impunity of insurgents and terrorists" in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.

Mr Jonathan also ordered more troops to be sent to the north-eastern states.

The Islamist group, whose name means "Western education is forbidden" in the local Hausa language, is fighting to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state in the north.

This is not the first time that the president has declared a state of emergency. The question is whether more troops on the ground will make any difference.

Many analysts say the military has been losing the battle for hearts and minds and abuse allegations have helped boost Boko Haram.

Militants from Boko Haram have been blamed for most of the violence, which has left 2,000 people dead since 2010.

Nigeria - a multiethnic nation of more than 160 million people - is also affected by a spate of conflicts over land, religion and oil.

In the latest violence, 53 people were killed and 13 villages burnt in central Nigeria's Benue state on Tuesday.

And it is the first time that Mr Jonathan has admitted that parts of the country are no longer under central government control.

I pray to god help them find a way to deal with the growing violence.

Around 100 people are feared trapped in rubble after a four-storey building under construction collapsed in northeastern Rwanda..

Three people were confirmed dead and 21 others had been taken to hospital.

Those trapped are believed to include both construction workers on the building as well as passersby on the street.

The building, on a roadside in the town of Nyagatare, some 100 kilometres (60 miles) northeast of the capital Kigali, collapsed on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse.

Just minutes after Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of Emergency in three states including Borno, the Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Reverend Faye Pama Musa was killed by suspected Boko Haram members.

Reverend Pama Musa, who was the head pastor of a Pentecostal church in Maiduguri, was shot dead inside his GRA home by two gunmen who trailed him to his residence. The head quarters of Borno CAN have confirmed his killing.

Although Kim Kardashian attended the Met Gala in NYC on May 6 for the first time on the arm of her boyfriend, Kanye West, she was the only Kardashian to grace the red carpet — and a new report claims that’s exactly how Anna Wintour wanted it!

Anna Wintour may have welcomed Kim Kardashian to the Met Gala last week, but she dislikes Kim Kardashian and everything Kardashian stands for. 

Wintour apparently banned the pregnant star's mother Kris Jenner from attending the the punk-themed event.

According to a source,the U.S. Vogue editor-in-chief is said to have issued a strict ban on any further reality stars.

Anna approves every star who enters and although she finally relented on Kim, she drew the line at Kris, who was desperate to attend.Anna wants a parade of stars at the gala, not a parade of reality stars!

She apparently told staff that 'one Kardashian is enough!'.

Looks like she will not allow them to even appear on Vogue.com, Now I know why Kim was thoughtfully cropped out of the photo on Vogue’s Met Gala slideshow. 

Guarantee next year there will be none............there is already backlash in NY from letting one reality person in.

A South African magistrate has ordered Winnie Madikizela-Mandela to auction off scores of paintings, sculptures and a silver tea set to pay off her debts, according to a court document seen Tuesday.

Household goods belonging to the once revered anti-apartheid campaigner and ex-wife of Nelson Mandela, will go under the hammer next Tuesday to cover fees she owes to an upmarket Johannesburg private school, according to the order released by a Soweto sheriff.

A dining table set, 50 paintings, sculptures and a “room with books” are listed in the sale.

Madikizela-Mandela owes the school around 40,000 rand ($4,300, 3,350 euros) in accommodation fees for a family member, the Sowetan newspaper reported.

Mandela married Winnie five years before he was jailed for sabotage during his opposition to apartheid in 1963.

The pair separated shortly before he became the country’s first black president after the end of minority rule in 1994.

Controversy has followed Madikizela-Mandela closely in recent years.

She was convicted a decade ago for using her position as the ruling African National Congress women’s league leader to defraud a bank.

It’s sad how far black women will go just to be light skinned.They should just accept who they are and the skin God gave them to work with and just be proud.People come in different shapes,sizes, and skin tones, they just happen to have darker skin and they just need to realize that they can’t change that.

Everyone is beautiful in their own way.

There's been a lot of commotion about women MPs - because their skin are noticeably lighter than what they really look like.

I hope they are not trying to look like late pop star Michael Jackson

InTouch Magazine is putting an ahem, unique spin on the whole Kim Kardashian/Kanye West love story with the headline:Pregnant Kim’s worst fear: He’s GAY!

Then used a random candid of West standing next to a guy at a promotional event, claiming this person is West’s alleged “lover.”The cover says “Is this Kanye’s alleged lover?

Didn’t see that one coming! Apparently, Kanye’s friendship with Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci is more than just a friendship. According to the mag, the two are an item!

The mag is making some pretty strong accusations that after the Met Ball on May 6, Kim saw comments online claimed that openly gay Riccardo Tisci, who designed her controversial gown, purposely dressed her in a bad gown at the Met Gala out of jealously over West.

Ron Weaver dies after serving as a longtime producer for the CBS soap opera 'The Bold and the Beautiful.' Ron Weaver also worked for the Children's Television Workshop,which developed such popular children’s series as “Sesame Street” and “The Electric Company.”

Weaver won three Daytime Emmys for “The Bold and the Beautiful,” three years in a row from 2009 to 2011 when “Bold” received the outstanding drama series prize.

He died in Los Angeles at the age of 75.

The former England captain David Beckham is to retire from football at the end of this season after an illustrious 21-year career.

Beckham, who is said to be worth around $220million, made 115 appearances for his country and played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and PSG.

He's the first Englishman to win league titles in four different countries,115 international caps and an OBE from the Queen.

In his statement, the father-of-four, who recently won a league title playing with Paris Saint-Germain said:

I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level. I want to thank all my team-mates, the great managers that I had the pleasure of learning from. I also want to thank the fans who have all supported me and given me the strength to succeed. Nothing will ever completely replace playing the game I love, however I feel like I'm starting a new adventure and I'm genuinely excited about what lies ahead. I'm fortunate to have been given many opportunities throughout my career and now I feel it's my time to give back.

Rihanna sure has a way of destroying the reputation of every man she messes with.

For a while she was kicking it with Knicks player J.R. Smith and apparently after Chris Brown dumped her she decided to go with the NBA player, who is struggling in the playoffs.

Some Knicks fans are blaming the Bajan singer for J.R’s bad moves on the court saying the 25-year-old singer is nothing more than a distraction.

Just before he was suspended for elbowing Celtics guard Jason Terry in Game One 3 of the first round, J.R. was spotted in a Manhattan club with Rihanna, and a fan by the name of Peruvian_Gawd blasted her on Instagram for distracting the ballplayer.

Rather than ignoring the fan, RiRi replied:
