The Supreme Court this morning ruled against California's controversial Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in the state. The court also struck down part of the Defense of Marriage Act, which prevents same-sex spouses from receiving the same benefits that heterosexual couples receive.

NFL star Aaron Hernandez charged with murder
23 year old New England Patriot tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested yesterday Wednesday June 26th at his mansion in Massachusetts in connection with the murder of another player whose body was found near his home.
The body of 27 year old former semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd was found on June 17th in an industrial park a mile from Hernandez's house. Police say he had been shot multiple times in the groin, back and chest. Hernandez has since been remanded into custody without bail. Continue reading...

Prosecutors say there was communication between the Odin Lloyd (pictured above) and Hernandez just 10 hours before Odin's death. They say they have video showing Lloyd getting into Hernandez' car around that time. They also say Hernandez had been texting Lloyd.
The DA said keys were found in Lloyd's pocket to a car that had been rented by Hernandez.
Mr Lloyd's relatives said the two men were friends and both had been out together on the night Mr Lloyd died. In court on Wednesday, prosecutors said the killing arose from a dispute at a Boston nightclub on June 14.
They said Mr Lloyd was aware Hernandez was upset with him after being picked up by the NFL star in the early hours of June 17.
Prosecutors said Mr Lloyd sent a text to his sister saying: "Did you see who I am with."
When his sister asked who, Mr Lloyd responded: "NFL."
Within minutes of the text, people working overnight at the industrial park reported hearing gunshots, authorities said.

Obamas at the 'Door of No Return': First Family makes emotional trip to former slaving port in Senegal from where captives were shipped to America - never to see their homeland again
President Barack Obama has spent the afternoon touring a Senegalese island where Africans were shipped across the Atlantic into slavery and he called the visit a 'very powerful moment.'
Obama says visiting Goree Island Thursday with his family helps them fully appreciate the magnitude of the slave trade. They toured the museum at the Maison des Esclaves where slaves were gathered before going through the 'Door of No Return' and being forced onto ships bound for North America.
Obama also said that, as an African American and an African-American president, the trip gaves him even greater motivation to stand up for human rights around the world, and the visit came just hours after he clashed with his Senegalese hosts over gay rights.
He said the island is a reminder of what happens when civil rights are not protected.

Tanzanian killed in the U.S.
Omar Sykes, 22, and another student were walking areas of the 700 block of Fairmont Street NW before 5:30 at night they consulted with two people.
Police believe there was a criminal trial but before the dispute occurred one of those people pulled a trigger and killed Sykes. He died in vicinity hospital .
Another student was struck by the butt of a pistol and wounded the head though no serious injuries.We think it was very sudden and we are not sure if the students had stolen any property" said Captain Bob Alder DC police station in an interview with News4.
Full details about the suspects still have to be developed. I hope it will be not difficult for police to identify the criminals.Many have suffered from a fear of walking at night for this very overwhelming;," said one student was interviewed by Megan McGrath from News4.
